Photoshop as a Medium

Photoshop is a design software among the Adobe suite that allows the user to create images through different tools and acquired skills. Photoshop is used by individuals in the working field creating advertisements, and even used by young students for photo editing, creating fun pictures, and doing homework assignments. The capabilities of Photoshop are endless.
Photoshop can be adapted to the theory “the Medium is the message” because photoshop itself can be considered a medium, and therefore, can also be considered a “message.” Photoshop is a medium that people use for many different things. They can get their emotions and thoughts out and convert them into a digital message. The message of photoshop is that it is a technology that can allow a person to create digital art at home on their computer, using tools such as “pen, paint, and gradient” in seconds the way that people used to take hours creating by hand. Advertising designers in the 50’s and 60’s were done by hand by graphic designers. Photoshop replaces the time and difficult effort gone into designing by hand.

Q:In my original image, my images seemed too static on the grey gradient background. I found out how to change the gradient color on a default background. I like how the blue looks better than the grey. I also wanted to add a stroke on some of the images, which i have not yet found out.

The Medium chosen is the SONY Pocket Reader. This is a new technology that allows an individual to choose from thousands of novels and upload them immediately. They can view page by page on the screen and read endless amounts of books. Perhaps McLuhan's "message" behind this new technology is that it cuts out the trip to the library or book store and the rental/purchase price. As a result, the "implication" of this new technology is that it may replace the need for book stores and libraries.
